Genesis 32

They danced in tandem until the heavy,

amber sun broke across the ford,

gathering up the sweat on Jacob’s temples,

and on the winged man’s iridescent palms.

And all for this: limping onward

to another fight,

another unsuspecting embrace,

tracing his hip in quiet wonder

and tasting upon his lips, a new name –

Israel, who spotted astonishment

in the shimmering eyes of God.
